چکیده
Endolymphatic hydrops (can only be diagnosed by postmortem histopathological examination of temporal bone) Immunological Mechanism Genetic Predisposition (AD inheritence) Viral Predisposition not proved Vascular Etiology (Migraine Association) (VIG viral vascular, immunological, genetic) RUPTURE THEORY Periodic ruptures of the membranous labyrinth, which result in leakage of the potassium-rich endolymph into the perilymph, are thought to be responsible for producing Meniere's attacks. 1. Initial Irritative Phase 2. Subsequent Paretic Phase 3. Recovery Phase Initial excitation of the hair cells as a result of the increased potassium concentration around their basal surfaces is thought to result in the initial irritative phase of an attack. The subsequent paretic phase is thought to result from a blockade of neurotransmitter release. Recovery phase – Healing of the rupture then allows restitution of the normal chemical composition of the endolymph and perilymph, resulting in termination of the attack and improvement in vestibular and auditory function. The gradual deterioration in inner ear function probably results from the effects of repeated ionic insults leading to degeneration of Hair cells.

Membrane Stress in the Human Labyrinth and Meniere Disease: A Model Analysis
Introduction The nature and extent of membrane damage encountered in Meniere disease remains unexplained. Pressure-induced membrane stress may underlie the characteristic hydropic distention. Analysis of stress in the several vestibular chambers may offer insight into the nature and progression of Meniere disease. Objective Membrane stress levels will be assessed by constructing a specific mode...
متن کاملThe Intimate Relationship between Vestibular Migraine and Meniere Disease: A Review of Pathogenesis and Presentation
Vestibular migraine (VM) has only recently been recognized as a distinct disease entity. One reason is that its symptoms overlap greatly with those of other vestibular disorders, especially Meniere disease (MD). The pathophysiology of neither VM nor MD is entirely elucidated. However, there are many theories linking migraine to both disorders. We reviewed the current understanding of migraine, ...
متن کاملگزارش یک مورد بهبود سرگیجه در بیمار مبتلا به سندروم منییر پس از عمل جراحی دکمپرسیون ساک آندولنفاتیک
Meniere’s syndrome is the most common cause of true vertigo that in 75-90% of the cases can be acceptably controlled by various methods of medical treatment. But in this case in spite of 13 years medical therapy, recurrent attacks of vertigo continue to occur and the patient completely become disable. During the last month, six severe vertigo attacks recorded by patients before surgery....
متن کاملDo signs of natural plugging of superior semicircular canal dehiscence exist?
Our experience with 102 patients having superior semicircular canal dehiscence confirm that the clinical manifestations of the disease are very diverse; we also identified 3 patients who showed Meniere-like symptoms. Clinical examination during an acute vertigo attack of a patient with Meniere disease for several years and whom we subsequently diagnosed as having large superior semicircular can...
متن کاملIntratympanic application of gentamicin for treatment of Menière's disease.
Since 1974 we have treated 118 patients suffering from unilateral and bilateral (two patients) Morbus Meniere with intratympanal applications of gentamicin-sulfate. In contrast to earlier attempts using this method, we did not try to destroy the vestibular apparatus, but taking into our considerations the recent findings about the pathophysiological mechanism of Morbus Meniere, only to damage t...
متن کاملIs Meniere Disease Caused by a Pathological Immune Response?
The etiology of Meniere disease (MD) is unknown. Among the several factors which can provoke the disease is a pathological immune response. Objective: To investigate whether MD is due to a pathological immune reaction. Materials and methods: Immunological assay (IA) was evaluated in a consecutive study on 159 patients with MD (mean age 47.8. years) and the results compared with those from 26 pa...
